Know more about your day trip

Poland is beautiful year-round, but the best time is May through September when weather is warm and ideal for outdoor activities. Spring offers mild temperatures and fewer crowds, while summer provides the warmest weather. Fall brings stunning foliage and comfortable temperatures, perfect for sightseeing.

Poland uses the Polish zloty (PLN). While some tourist areas accept euros, it's best to have zloty for most purchases. Credit cards are widely accepted in major cities like Krakow, but it's advisable to carry some cash for smaller establishments and local markets.

Polish is the official language. English is commonly spoken in tourist areas, hotels, and restaurants in Krakow, especially among younger people. Most signs in tourist areas have English translations, making navigation easier for international visitors.

The most common day trips include Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial, Wieliczka Salt Mine, and Zakopane.

Krakow is generally very safe for visitors with low crime rates. The historic Old Town is well-patrolled and tourist-friendly. Standard precautions like watching your belongings in crowded areas and avoiding poorly lit streets at night are recommended, but violent crime against visitors is rare.

Pack comfortable walking shoes for cobblestone streets, weather-appropriate clothing, and layers for changing temperatures. Bring a power adapter for European outlets, and consider packing a light rain jacket. In summer, pack sunscreen and light clothing; in winter, warm layers and waterproof boots.

St. Mary's Basilica with its famous wooden altarpiece, Wawel Cathedral where Polish kings were crowned, and the historic Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz) with its synagogues are must-see religious sites. Each represents different aspects of Krakow's diverse spiritual heritage and architectural beauty.

Krakow John Paul II International Airport (KRK) is located about 7 miles (11 km) west of the city center. It's well-connected with bus and taxi services to downtown Krakow. The airport serves numerous European destinations and some intercontinental flights, making it easily accessible for international travelers.
