You will receive the vehicle that best fits the number of travelers in your group, ranging from a sedan to a van for groups of up to 7. 2+ million travelers like you. Moments they'll never forget.
The town is compact enough that a few hours spent at one of the spa complexes, followed by a walk through the colonial center and a meal at one of the local restaurants, makes for a satisfying stop between destinations rather than a dedicated day out. Travelers moving between Mexico City and destinations further south or west in the State of Mexico will find Ixtapan de la Sal sits naturally along the route. A Daytrip booking lets you schedule a stop here, spend time at a facility of your choice, and continue to your final destination without coordinating separate transport.
Ixtapan de la Sal is approximately 120 km (75 miles) southwest of Mexico City. The drive typically takes around 2 to 2.5 hours depending on traffic and the route taken through the mountains. A private transfer removes the uncertainty of navigating unfamiliar highland roads and toll junctions, meaning you arrive rested and ready to make the most of the day rather than worn down by the journey.
It is one of the more family-friendly day trip options from Mexico City precisely because there is something for every age. Children gravitate toward the waterpark's slides and pools, while adults can seek out the quieter thermal baths. The town itself is small, walkable, and low-stress compared to larger resort areas, and the drive from the capital passes through attractive highland scenery that holds the attention of younger travelers. A private transfer is particularly well suited to families â no coordinating bus schedules, no managing luggage across connections, and the flexibility to leave when it suits the group rather than when the last bus departs.
The two main attractions in town serve different moods. The traditional spa complex â built around the natural mineral and thermal springs â is oriented toward relaxation, with pools of varying temperatures, treatments, and a quieter atmosphere suited to adults and families looking to unwind. The Ixtapan Waterpark is a larger, livelier facility with slides, wave pools, and attractions that skew toward families with children and those looking for more active entertainment. Both are located in the same general area of town. Most visitors choose one based on the energy they are after, though some larger packages allow access to both.
Ixtapan de la Sal offers something Mexico City cannot: the chance to spend a day soaking in thermal mineral waters that have been drawing visitors for centuries. The town's identity is built around its natural springs, and the infrastructure around them has grown into a genuine resort destination with multiple spa complexes, the large Ixtapan Waterpark, and a relaxed pace that feels worlds away from the capital. For travelers who want a full-day reset rather than another museum or market, Ixtapan de la Sal is one of the most rewarding half-day escapes reachable from Mexico City without an overnight stay.
The mineral springs at Ixtapan de la Sal have been considered therapeutic for generations, with waters containing a natural mineral composition that locals and visitors have long associated with skin and muscle benefits. The springs feed both the traditional spa facilities and the waterpark pools. Water temperature varies by pool, so there are options whether you prefer a warm soak or cooler immersion. Arriving early in the day gives you access to the least crowded conditions, particularly on weekends and Mexican public holidays when the complexes can fill up significantly.
