The dolphins are found near Kampi, a stretch of the Mekong about 15 km (9 miles) north of Kratie town. Sightings are most reliable in the dry season when water levels drop and the dolphins gather in deeper pools. You take a short boat ride from the riverbank to reach the viewing area, where local boatmen know exactly where the small pods tend to surface. Travel time and distance depend on your departure point. From Phnom Penh, Kratie is approximately 350 km (217 miles), typically a 5 to 6 hour drive.
