About Seville
It's impossible for those visiting Seville not to be captivated by the city's breathtaking architecture, rich history, vibrant culture, and delicious food and drink. With all these components it's unsurprising that many believe it to be one of the best travel destinations in Spain and we have to agree. That's why we often urge those in Porto to consider driving by car from Porto to Seville to bask in this city's unforgettableness.
Before you learn about what you can do nowadays in Seville, it's important to learn a little about this fascinating city's past. For starters, it dates back more than 2,000 years and is one of Spain's oldest cities. Over the years, it has been occupied by many civilizationsâlike Porto and other European citiesâincluding the Christians, Romans, Muslims, and Moors.
Under Islamic rule, Seville became a thriving economic center and cultural hub, constructing several impressive buildings, including the Real Alcazar. Today, you can explore this grand palace, which was once Seville's Jewish quarter during medieval times.
After touring the Real Alcazar, you can explore the surrounding neighborhood and bask in the perfect examples of Moorish architecture with thin alleyways lined with beautiful white-washed buildings, picturesque gardens, stunning courtyards, and quaint homes. A wander through the streets will help you learn more about every civilization's historical influence on Seville and how it has been preserved today.
Once you've wandered around the city, you can try the food. We promise that no trip to Seville is complete without a taste of local cuisine. In fact, one of the top reasons you should visit this extraordinary city is for its food scene. No matter where you go, you'll find tapasâSpanish plates of savory dishesâand a glass of the most flavorsome wine. So get your fill of the attractions and taste test your way around the city before you're onto the next exciting adventure.
From Porto to Seville: travel tips
No matter how much you've traveled, you can always use a few travel tips because visiting a new city comes with its own quirks. So, to help ensure you enjoy your travel experience from Porto to Seville, we've shared a few of our tried and trusted travel insights you'll want to note.
Dress modestly when visiting churches
The route from Porto to Seville has its fair share of grand to modest churches worth exploring, especially if you are interested in religion. However, if you plan to visit a few churches along the way and in Seville, you must remember to dress modestly. In Portugal and Spain, the churches are strict about their dress codes.
This means that you cannot have naked shoulders, short clothing, ball caps, or flip-flops. Since it can get hot in the summer, the easiest way to prepare is to carry a pair of closed shoes and wear a shawlâif you're a womanâthat you can leave in the car.
Expect cheek kisses
If you're not from Europe, cheek kisses might seem foreign, but they are a tradition in places like Porto and Seville. So, if you will be stopping along the way and sightseeing with Daytrip, be prepared to give and receive more than a few customary cheek kisses while interacting with the locals. You can always abstain, but remember to be polite.
Stay hydrated
Hydration is key if you plan to travel from Porto to Seville during the summer months, especially considering that this region experiences temperatures in the high 90s and even low 100s in July and August. Luckily, it's easy to remain hydrated.
Simply keep sipping on bottled water throughout your trip, as our Daytrip drivers won't mind. You should also take your water with you to drink while exploring any of the places on your travel list found between the two cities.
How to get from Porto to Seville
Getting from Porto to Seville might seem like a mighty mountain of effort that's not easily navigable, but we promise it's easier than you might think. Have a look below to learn the transportation options available that you can use to get from one wonderful city to the next:
From Porto to Seville by bus
BlaBlaCar Bus is the only private bus-pooling line that offers trips from Porto to Seville, and unlike other bus lines, the tickets can be pricey. On average, BlaBlaCar Bus offers trips to Seville from Porto once daily, and ticket prices cost between $55 and $77 (âŹ50.50-âŹ70) one way. A trip also takes about nine and a half hours to get from one city to the next.
Unfortunately, many customers have had bad experiences with BlaBlaCar Bus, so it might be worthwhile to look into alternatives with better reputations, like Flixbus and RenEX. Both bus lines offer trips daily, but they are not cheap. A ticket costs around the same price as BlaBlaCar Buses. In addition, these buses take between 10 and 12 hours to reach Seville, so they are not fast.
From Porto to Seville by train
Although a train offers a connecting bus trip, it is often best to travel the entire way by train if you can afford it, as it requires less effort and is a more streamlined process. However, taking a train the entire way is more time-consuming, with an average trip taking about 12 hours and 10 minutes and costing between $50 and $100 (âŹ46-âŹ92).
Two train lines, Comboios De Portugal and Renfe Viajeros, offer trips from Porto to Seville. The former covers the first half of the trip, while the latter takes you the rest of the way.
Unfortunately, taking a train will involve multiple stops and transfers in different cities and towns along the route. You won't get to tour these places as there won't be enough time between transfers.
From Porto to Seville by flight
If you're hoping a flight is the most convenient and easiest way to travel from Porto to Seville, we're sorry to disappoint. Unfortunately, there isn't a direct plane between these two cities with major airlines. If you want to take a plane, you will first need to hop on a train that will take you to Maia, and from there, you will fly to Faro.
Once you arrive in Faro, after an hour and 10-minute flight, you will need to take a bus to Seville. This bus takes about two hours and 45 minutes to complete the trip, but the bad news is a bus only leaves every four hours, so you might be in for a bit of a wait. Not to mention, the entire trip could cost you well over $250 (âŹ230).
From Porto to Seville by private car
One of the best travel experiences you can expect to have when traveling from Porto to Seville is by private car. Driving between these two cities in a private car is guaranteed to be comfortable and hassle-free.
In our opinion, the best door-to-door private car service to hire is Daytrip. Daytrip's professional English-speaking drivers are a cut above the rest. Not only will they get you where you need to be safely, but Daytrip is also reliable, reputable, and cost-effective, with trips starting at $137 (âŹ126) per seat per trip.
Although our drivers are not tour guides, we're more than happy to share travel tips and insights about the places you want to visit along the way. So pick out your stops and let us know beforehand, and we'll do our best to make your sightseeing wishes a reality.
Things to do when you get to Seville
Seville is a city that perfectly embodies the region's incredibly diverse range of architectural styles and cultures. No matter where you travel within the city limits, you'll find some photo-worthy sights. But where do you begin your adventure? Below, we've created a mini must-visit guide for those traveling from Porto to Seville who want to see the best of the city.
Seville Cathedral
The Seville Cathedral is the world's largest gothic church, which you might already know, which is why it's on your travel list. But did you know that it was built atop the remains of a mosque?
That's not the only interesting thing about this cathedral. It is also incredibly opulent, with a stunning gold altarpiece depicting the 36 scenes from Christ's life. It is also believed to house the tomb of Christopher Columbus and is home to beautiful artworks by Goya and Murillo.
Santa Cruz
Even if you're not Jewish, you should visit Santa Cruz, Seville's historic Jewish quarter. This historic quarter is far more than meets the eye. It's not only about the beautiful white-washed buildings.
The square also offers visitors a look at some of Seville's most popular attractions, like the dramatic bell tower of Seville Cathedral, Giralda, and the Real Alcazar. You can also shop when you stop at the squares, art galleries, and bodegas since there's something for everyone.
Royal Tobacco Factory
Few people know that Seville used to have a booming tobacco industry, and the Royal Tobacco Factory is where most of the city's tobacco was produced. Interestingly, this building used to be Europe's largest industrial building, but it has since been converted into a university building that can be toured. If you want to see the building in all its glory, we recommend making sure you go on a day when it's open to the public.
When is the best time to visit Seville?
If you want to drive from Porto to Seville but are unsure when to visit, we'll tell you a secret. The best time to visit this luscious city is from March to May when the weather is mild, and the tourist rush hasn't peaked, as seen during the summer months.
Not only will you miss the crowds, but you will also enjoy cheaper hotel and transportation rates. You'll also have an easier time visiting some of the more popular attractions with far fewer lines.
However, if you're visiting Seville for its yearly festivals, it's best to visit during late April and early May, but be wary of hiked-up hotel prices and significantly larger crowds.

Fantastisk chaufför i Egypten
DayTrip travel from Porto, Portugal to Seville, Spain with three stops
âHighly recommend company and driver Nuno F. Received several useful reminders, including one with Nuno's picture, type of car (a comfortable and spotless Mercedes E-class station wagon) and his phone number. They even reminded us of a daylight savings time change the prior night to our trip, which was a nice touch since ours had already occurred in the US. Nuno was exceptional in his describing the sights along the way and, due to rain preventing us from walking around Castelo de Vide, he even drove us all around the quaint streets that were so narrow he actually had to pull in his side mirror! He did an un-planned stop at a wonderful old cafĂ© he knew about where we met the owner and received an interesting description of the unique tiles on the walls that Nuno translated for us. We came away with a great appreciation of the people and the culture. Due to a last-minute change in plans with the people we were to meet in Seville, we had to arrive at our destination an hour earlier than originally planned and, thanks to Nuno, he got us there ahead of the required arrival time. In all our haste, I left my jacket in the back seat of his car and, about an hour later, Nuno came back to the hotel and found us having dinner to return my jacket. What super service! We definitely will be using DayTrip â and asking for Nuno â in the future should we return to this beautiful area.â
Porto (Portugal) to Seville (Spain)
âWe are two senior couples and wanted to book a private transfer from Porto to Seville, to avoid a much more convoluted train or air transfer. We too had the same initial questions around reliability, safety, authenticity etc about Daytrip, but after reading reviews from other TA members, we booked a day transfer with two stops en route. Daniel F, our driver, arrived right on time, with a large van, which was spotless and helped us with our luggage from the hotel. He also gave us all water and a delicious Portuguese egg tart. We had a stop in Coimbra for a look around the cathedral and university and a great coffee shop, then a stop at a roadside cafe for lunch. Later we stopped in Badajoz, which unfortunately was "closed" during siesta time but gave us a chance to have a beer in a local inn, a toilet stop and a walk around, so not all bad. Then we arrived in Seville- a little late but still well before dinner. We had a most enjoyable day and Daniel at all times was a courteous, considerate and careful driver. We, too, would not hesitate to book with Daytrip again for European transfers, which are really a tour but going from A to B, not A to A.â
âMy cousin and I needed transportation from Porto , Portugal to Spain to hike the Camino. We were met at the airport by Leonardo. He is extremely professional and kind. My cousin and I immediately fell asleep in the car after long flights. We woke up at our destination in sarria. He waited until we met our air bnb host, before leaving. I was tired and preoccupied with the air bnb check in , and I wanted to tip him but forgot in all the handing off. Leonardo, if you read this, please know that I am sorry for not acknowledging my appreciation of your service. You far exceeded my expectation. I thank you very much . You are a wonderful and kind man!! We had also booked this company later in the trip to transport us from Seville Spain to Lisbon. We met Evo. Just as Leonardo was, Evo was prompt, and professional. Our husbands had joined us after the Camino, so they got to experience this company as well, and they were also blown away with how nice he was . We all highly recommend this service. Professional , and safe. I canât say enough good things about these two wonderful young men. Thank you Leonard and Evo, for your wonderful service to us :) Mary i Murrayâ
