Wroclaw to Adrsprach and Ksiaz Castle: Private day trip

These geological wonders have all been given names that reflect their shape and walking along the marked pathway, which is a loop, takes visitors past exotically named formations such as the Caterpillar, Butcher's Axe, the Dog and Boar, and the Sphinx and the Golem. Stroll alongside the beautiful orange colored Metuje River, which leads to what is generally considered to be one of the most amazing parts of the trail — the Gothic Gate. Walking through the gate enables visitors to admire the high rock façade as they follow the river. The rocks are not the only natural wonder on the trail as visitors find out once they discover the jaw-dropping waterfall completely surrounded by rock formations. Further along the path is the opportunity to climb higher and be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the Rock City. The trail is completed with the ‘mouse hole” (which is self-explanatory), but through which humans can also squeeze before exiting the trail.

Known as the ‘Pearl of Silesia’, this large thirteenth-century castle is the rumored site for hidden Nazi treasure confiscated during the Second World War. Although its colorful history of owners includes a future president of the United States and Czar Nicolas I, it was really after the war that rumor and mystery began to circulate about the castle. Some say that the sealed rooms in the basement were used to prepare the castle as Hitler’s future headquarters while others claim they conceal a secret laboratory for testing rockets. Deep below the lavishly decorated parlors and rooms and the beautifully terraced castle gardens lie a vast tunnel complex where it is rumored that a train packed with gold and valuables plundered by the Nazis awaits discovery. Even as recently as 2015, treasure hunters flocked to the area after it was revealed that this fabled ‘Nazi Gold Train’ had indeed been located near or under the castle.
