From Madrid to Granada: travel tips

Here are three essential tips to keep in mind for your Madrid to Granada trip, to make your journey smooth and memorable:

Take advantage of siesta time

A sacred custom in Spain is the siesta. Usually, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., many shops and restaurants are shut in the afternoon during the hot summer heat. Plan your day around this and spend the time unwinding, savoring a long lunch, or relaxing. This downtime might be a welcome respite amid your hectic sightseeing schedule.

Eat like a local

Spanish meal times are different from what you might be used to. Lunch (almuerzo or comida) is usually served between 2:00 PM. and 4:00 PM, and dinner (cena) starts at 9:00 PM or later. Embrace this schedule to enjoy authentic Spanish dining experiences. Restaurants open for dinner late, and tapas bars come alive even later, offering a unique nightlife experience.

Learn basic Spanish phrases

Even though many residents understand English, knowing some basic Spanish can improve your experience. Simple greetings, asking for directions, or food orders placed in Spanish can go a long way. Plus, locals appreciate the effort, and you might get an even warmer welcome.

Explore the Alhambra

Anyone traveling to Granada has to see the magnificent 13th-century Alhambra, a palace and fortress. The Nasrid Palaces' elegant stucco and calm gardens will carry you back to a time of Moorish artistry.

Flowing waterfalls and rich greenery provide a peaceful haven at the Generalife Gardens. See the amazing sunset views from the Alcazaba fortress, which presents a 360-degree panoramic of Granada.

absolutely amazing to travel across europe!

my family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids (ages 6 and 7) had a fabulous car trip with ricardo from granada to madrid, which we opted for because the flights were either early in the morning or later in the evening than we preferred. we had originally planned a sightseeing stop but decided mid trip to abort the extra stop because of weather and tired children, which ricardo easily accommodated. We had a relaxing, safe, comfortable drive. ricardo was polite and kind and helpful and super professional. he was a pleasure to travel with and his car was clean and comfortable and he had two great booster seats for our kids plus waters for all of us. i will absolutely use mydaytrip.com again and will recommend to folks i know

Great Experience!!!

We could not have been happier with the experience, with Daytrip, and with our driver/guide Damir, who drove us from Granada to Madrid with stops in Consuegra and Toldeo! The communication was excellent throughout and Damir showed up right on time (actually even a few minutes early), immediately offered us water, and engaged us in conversation about Granada, Andalusia, and Spain in general. He was friendly and knowledgeable and was incredibly patient with our feeble attempts to speak Spanish. The stops along the way were perfectly timed and informative, and we never felt rushed as we moved from place to place. While the cost of the trip was obviously more than a train ride, it was well worth it! It was about as hassle free a way to travel as you could have and it was definitely far more educational. We are fans of Daytrip (and Damir) and will use their services in the future.

Granada to Madrid

Fantastic way to get from Granada to Madrid. Julio was an excellent driver. He arrived right on time and got us to Madrid quickly and safely. We allowed time for a couple of quick stops for lunch and breaks. I also left my eyeglasses in his van (which he immediately noticed) and dropped them off at our hotel front desk. Great experience overall!
