About Paris
Paris seems to always make an appearance in history books, romance novels, and biographies of famous artists and thought leadersβand not without cause! This Western European capital has wielded a profound influence on global politics, fashion, and trade for nearly a millennium. Countless influential leaders have lived and worked in Paris, and today, it is home to over 11 million people.
Parisβs history
Parisii was a Celtic city that fell under Roman rule in 52 BC and was renamed Lutetia. By the 4th century AD, it was once again Paris.
Paris became a cultural, religious, and political hub during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. The wealth and power acquired during colonization under the French Empire was concentrated in Paris, and it was also the center stage for the French Revolution.
In the 1800s, Napoleon III and Baron Haussmann transformed Paris with its iconic grand boulevards that we recognize today, although their redesign was not without controversy.
Parisβs reach abroad
The legacy of the French Empire remains prominent in Paris. Parisians come from all corners of the globe and its restaurants offer cuisines from near and far. Numerous multinational companies choose to put their headquarters in Paris and it has the busiest airport in the European Union.
French is spoken by over 320 million people worldwide, most of whom live outside of France. Even the term lingua franca, meaning βthe common language,β originates from a time when French was the language of trade. Today, French comes in many dialects and creole forms, but Parisian French remains the textbook standard.
Paris: a premier destination
Each year, over 40 million people visit Paris for its art, food, and atmosphere. Paris's museums are home to the worldβs masterpieces and the classic symbols of French architecture like the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower are popular attractions. For students of the French language, it is the ultimate test of proficiency.
Whether it is your first time visiting Paris or youβre a full-on Francophile, thereβs always something new to see. Bon voyage!

Things to do when you get to Paris
A truly comprehensive list of things to see and do in Paris would fill a book, but weβve highlighted just a few of our top picks! Before you head out on your trip from Haarlem to Paris, jot down a quick itinerary for Paris and leave plenty of time for meandering its romantic alleys and people-watching from cafe patios. The perfect blend of planned and spontaneous!
The Louvre and Eiffel Tower, Parisβ star attractions
They say you havenβt been to Paris if you havenβt seen the Eiffel Tower, and no matter how many times youβve visited the City of Love, itβs a lovely sight. While itβs visible from around the city, if itβs your first time in Paris, definitely buy tickets to go inside! Or, wait until the sun is down to see the worldwide icon lit up against the Parisian skies.
The Louvre Museum is a contender for the best art museum in the world, and like the Eiffel Tower, should be at the top of your itinerary. Even if youβre not an art enthusiast, there are thousands of works from around the world, so thereβs always something new to discover. The legendary Mona Lisa is always a crowd-pleaser.
Sacre-Coeur
Sacre-Coeur is the second-highest structure in Paris (first place goes to the Eiffel Tower!) and is the best spot for photos overlooking the most romantic city in the world. Its full name is the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris and is perched majestically atop Montmartre. You can walk up or take the funicular, and the best time to visit is in the late afternoon to catch the golden hour before sunset.
It is free for the public to quietly admire, but not open to noisy group tours, since it is an actively used worship space.
The Paris Catacombs
After seeing Paris from above on Montmartre, head underground to the famous Paris Catacombs. This extensive series of tunnels and rooms spans 174 miles (280 km) and extends five stories underground. The bones of 6 million people have their final resting place in the ossuary, and many sections are structurally unstable and blocked off from the public. Rumors circulate constantly of the hidden communities and criminal activity taking place right under unsuspecting feet.
The ticket booking system may require you to set an alarm to secure your spot. Booking is open exactly 7 days before the tour takes place: if youβd like to tour on a Wednesday at 11:00 AM, you will need to order the tickets online at 11:00 AM (Paris time) on the Wednesday before.
When is the best time to visit Paris
The summer is the most popular time to visit Paris, as it aligns well with school and work holidays. Which is why the best time to see Paris is in the spring!
Between March and May, the flowers on balconies and in gardens start to bloom and the winter chill has subsided. Since there are fewer tourists, it will be easier to reserve prime reservation slots for popular attractions and the streets will be less crowded. You will still need a jacket, and probably an umbrella, but the flowers are well worth the occasional shower!

Why people love Daytrip
- 16 travelers took this route with us
βI used this service for a transfer from Split in Croatia to Perast Montenegro. My experience was exceptional. My driver Bojan was helpful, informative and ensured my journey was comfortable and enjoyable. I highly recommend the service.β
βWe were extremely satisfied with the quality of service we received from Day Trip. We had two Day Trip rides on August 31 from Athens to Lefkada and September 7 from Lefkada back to Athens. Both trips included stops at scenic sites in Greece. Both drivers were excellent and accommodating. However, weβd especially like to recognize Panos Peppas, who was our driver from Lefkada to Athens. Panos was incredibly nice & pleasant and delivered outstanding customer service, which included handling all of luggage, providing us with cold waters throughout the trip, providing us protein bars, providing us with printed materials on the Corinth Canal (one of scenic stops), looking up and providing us with terminal & gate info for our flight back home and providing us with a recipe for tzatziki.β
Best transport company anywhere
βWe absolutely love this company and have used it many times over the years to get from A to B without the hassle of hiring a car ourselves. Excellent drivers every time. Efficient and professional. Itβs worth every penny and we can honestly recommend Day Trip to everyone. Itβs 5 star rating is well deserved.β
Excellent experience in traveling
βWe traveled from Nuremberg to Munich in a beautiful Audi. Driver picked us at our hotel at the exact time requested. Got us to Munich in plenty of time for our next tour. Driver made sure we were comfortableβ
Reasonably Priced and Safe Transportation
βGonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point. I recommend this company as finding a one way ride from Tulum to Cancun isn't easy or cheap and this company provides a great service for a great price. I will definitely be using them again whenever I'm in the Cancun/Tulum area. Thank you DayTrip and Gonzola.β
βWe were picked up by Marianna to drive us from Heraklion to Chania. The weather was terrible & due to this Marianna arrived a few minutes late. She contacted me to advise of this. Marianna lives in Chana and she made our trip very interesting by informing us of local things to do and see in Chania. Marianna is a safe driver and we all felt comfortable with the speed she drove at and how good her driving was in heavy rain. She is a lovely person with fluent English. We highly recommend Daytrips and if you are in Heraklion or Chania please make sure you ask for Marianna.β
βUsed the service to go from Luxor to Hurghada, Egypt. Ahmed H was our driver and he was perfect. The car was new, clean, he had water and snacks for us, and accommodated our stops. Great service from him and would recommend it.β
Comfortable and Safe Rides in Mexico
βUsed Daytrip for two rides in Mexico, which were both great. So comfortable, and we arrived at each of our destinations at a great time. Both were incredible drivers, and we felt so safe. One of our drivers, Miguel, also played the best music! Will definitely use Daytrip on our next trip to Mexico.β
Great way to travel and see some sights on the way
βWe did not know what to expect with this trip and booked from Australia. We were initially looking for an easy way to travel from Granada to Malaga. We decided not to waste the opportunity to see something additional on our way. Miguel certainly exceeded our expectations. His English was excellent (unfortunately we speak very little Spanish), and he was very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the regions as we passed through and also discussing some of the local ways. Miguel took us to Antequera as planned and ensured we were able to easily get our tickets to the attractions without any sense of rushing us. We were picked up and dropped off punctually and really enjoyed our trip. Hopefully we will return to Spain and we can use this service again sometime.β
βWe used the service twice while in Thailand. Extremely prompt and efficient customer service. Best rate being offered in Chiang Mai for the travels. Polite, punctual, professional and English speaking drivers. Clean, comfortable vehicles. Being a regular visitor to Thailand, this was hands down the best service. Most pleased with the company. I hope it sustains the excellence of service that was rendered to us.β
