About your trip
Travel from Paris to enchanting Giverny, where Claude Monet created the magical gardens that inspired his most famous masterpieces. Step directly into the scenes from his iconic paintings as you wander through two distinct garden worlds. First, explore the flower garden with its vibrant colors planted in artistic arrangements that Monet designed to change with the seasons. Then discover the peaceful water garden with its famous Japanese bridge, weeping willows, and serene water lilies that became the focus of his revolutionary later works. Visit Monet's charming pink and green house, decorated with Japanese prints and painted in colors he loved, where you can see the artist's personal spaces including his living room, dining room, and studio. At day's end, your driver will bring you comfortably back to Paris after experiencing this living canvas that connects you directly to the birth of Impressionism. Please note that Monet's garden is only open between April and November. More information can be found here.

Know more about your day trip
Monet's Gardens feature two distinct parts: the flower garden (Clos Normand) with its straight-lined flower beds surrounding the pink house where Monet lived, and the Japanese-inspired water garden with the famous lily pond and Japanese bridge that inspired his water lilies series. Your 3-hour visit provides enough time to explore both gardens, visit Monet's restored house with its yellow dining room and blue kitchen, and see the artist's collection of Japanese prints.
Giverny is open annually from April 1 to November 1. For the most stunning floral displays, visit between May and July when irises, peonies, roses, and water lilies are typically in bloom. August and September showcase late summer flowers and mature water lilies. Early morning visits (before 10 AM) offer the best light for photography and fewer crowds. Weekdays are significantly less busy than weekends throughout the season.
Giverny is located approximately 75 kilometers (47 miles) northwest of Paris, with a driving time of about 1 hour each way. The scenic route passes through the beautiful Norman countryside and follows portions of the Seine River valley. Your private Daytrip driver handles the transportation logistics, allowing you to relax and prepare for your garden visit during the outbound journey and reflect on the experience during your return to Paris.
While Monet's home and gardens are the main attraction, Giverny also offers the Museum of Impressionisms featuring rotating exhibitions of impressionist works. The charming village itself is worth exploring, with its church containing Monet's family grave, picturesque stone houses with climbing roses, and several art galleries. The surrounding countryside offers pleasant walking paths along the Seine River if time permits during your 3-hour visit.
For the optimal experience, start with Monet's house to avoid initial crowds, then explore the flower garden (Clos Normand) with its stunning flower alleys. Cross under the road via the underground passage to reach the water garden with its famous Japanese bridge and water lily pond. This route allows you to experience the gardens as Monet designed them to be viewed, with the water garden serving as a peaceful finale to your visit.
Pack a camera with extra batteries or storage, comfortable walking shoes for garden paths, and weather-appropriate clothing (layers are recommended as Norman weather can be changeable). Sun protection is essential as many areas of the gardens have limited shade. Bring a water bottle and perhaps a small sketchbook if you're artistically inclinedādrawing is permitted in the gardens. Cash is useful for small purchases in the village shops.
Photography is permitted throughout the gardens and exterior of Monet's house. Inside the house, photography is allowed but without flash or tripods. For the best garden photos, early morning visits provide softer light and fewer people in your shots. The Japanese bridge is particularly popular for photos, so patience may be needed to capture it without crowds. Consider bringing different lenses to capture both broad landscapes and flower details.
