Overview: car trip from Tangier to Casablanca
The drive from Tangier to Casablanca is less of a transfer and more of an experience. This route includes 3 hours and 40 minutes of driving time and 210 miles (339 km) of the Moroccan coast to explore. From Tangier, youâll head southwest along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, passing ancient cities like Asilah, Sale, and Rabat, before reaching Casablanca.
Casablanca may be the largest city, but Moroccoâs capital is Rabat, a smaller city on the coast.
Rabatâs Kasbah of the Udayas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with narrow, winding streets lined with blue and white houses. Against the backdrop of the blue and white sky, this is a sight you wonât easily forget. Once-in-a-lifetime detours like these are easy to add to your Daytrip itinerary, so donât miss out!
About Casablanca
As you make your way down the coast from Tangier to Casablanca, youâll notice the antiquated old-world charm gives way to a modern metropolis. Casablanca is Moroccoâs largest city and the economic hub of the country. It is on the northern Atlantic coast and home to more than three million people.
Casablanca: Moroccoâs melting pot
Casablanca reflects a mix of the regions of Morocco as well as the countryâs international influences under Portuguese and French colonization. One clear example of this is in Casablancaâs cuisine, which mixes elements from home and abroad. The markets are full of fresh fish, oysters, and crabs, but as people immigrate from all over Morocco, theyâve mixed inland cuisine with a coastal twist. While in Casablanca, order a Moroccan seafood dish or venture into a restaurant serving fusions of French and Sub-Saharan cuisine.
Casablanca: Hollywoodâs sweetheart
Morocco remains an underrated travel destination, but Casablanca entered the international zeitgeist during World War II. While under French colonization, Casablanca hosted meetings of top leaders of the Allied forces and fueled international interest in North Africa.
Popular films Casablanca (1942) and A Night in Casablanca (1946) captured the imaginations of the masses with a romanticized view of life in Morocco in the 1940s. These films portrayed Casablanca as an exotic and mysterious locale at a time when Hollywood was heavily involved in war propaganda. Your Moroccan vacation is the perfect opportunity to separate fact from fiction and see an authentic version of Casablanca.
From Tangier to Casablanca: travel tips
Jot these handy travel tips down for maximum confidence after your Tangier to Casablanca transfer!
Learn Casablancaâs taxi code
Once you arrive in Casablanca, getting around town is easiest with local taxis. The public transit options available are limited and not convenient for reaching popular destinations unless your hotel is directly on the bus routes.
If you hire a white taxi, it is private and only for you and your travel companions. Red taxis are more like ride-share cars and may pick up other passengers heading in the same direction.
Arrive early to the Casablanca airport
If you plan on flying out of the Casablanca Airport, allow yourself plenty of time to go through the airport security. This airport has extra security measures. Before even entering the building your bags and passport will be checked. They will be checked again in the standard security line after checking in for your flight.

Things to do when you get to Casablanca
Your road trip from Tangier to Casablanca was just the beginning! Explore the best that Casablanca has to offer at these main points of interest:
The Hassan II Mosque
The construction of the Hassan II Mosque was completed in 1993 and it is one of the largest mosques in the world. Its minaret is the tallest in the world, standing at 689 feet (210 meters). With a backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, the mosqueâs sand-colored walls and turquoise-green mosaics make for a dramatic religious experience.
In between prayer times, non-Muslims are welcome to tour the mosque, so long as they are dressed appropriately. Women are not required to cover their hair, however everyone needs to be covered from their knees to the elbows. Some sections of the mosque do not allow shoes, so wear easy-to-remove shoes and bring socks.
After touring the Hassan II Mosque, take a walk along the seaside promenade and admire it from a distance against the Atlantic Ocean.
Rickâs Cafe
Experience a taste of that Hollywood glamor at Rickâs Cafe, even if itâs all a facade! Casablanca became an instant classic when it was released in 1942, although it was filmed entirely in California. What could be more Hollywood than having a fun, instagram-able moment in this real cafe set up as a replica of the original film set?
Casablancaâs Old Medina and Jewish quarter
Amid the modern allure of Casablanca lies odes to the traditional Moroccan lifestyle. Wander the narrow streets and markets in Casablanca's Old Medina for traditional shops selling handmade gifts, spices, and fabric.
The Old Medina also has a historic Jewish Quarter, called the Mellah. Here, you can visit synagogues and discover traditional Jewish shops and cuisine.

Why people love Daytrip
- 220 travelers took this route with us
âI used this service for a transfer from Split in Croatia to Perast Montenegro. My experience was exceptional. My driver Bojan was helpful, informative and ensured my journey was comfortable and enjoyable. I highly recommend the service.â
âWe were extremely satisfied with the quality of service we received from Day Trip. We had two Day Trip rides on August 31 from Athens to Lefkada and September 7 from Lefkada back to Athens. Both trips included stops at scenic sites in Greece. Both drivers were excellent and accommodating. However, weâd especially like to recognize Panos Peppas, who was our driver from Lefkada to Athens. Panos was incredibly nice & pleasant and delivered outstanding customer service, which included handling all of luggage, providing us with cold waters throughout the trip, providing us protein bars, providing us with printed materials on the Corinth Canal (one of scenic stops), looking up and providing us with terminal & gate info for our flight back home and providing us with a recipe for tzatziki.â
Best transport company anywhere
âWe absolutely love this company and have used it many times over the years to get from A to B without the hassle of hiring a car ourselves. Excellent drivers every time. Efficient and professional. Itâs worth every penny and we can honestly recommend Day Trip to everyone. Itâs 5 star rating is well deserved.â
Excellent experience in traveling
âWe traveled from Nuremberg to Munich in a beautiful Audi. Driver picked us at our hotel at the exact time requested. Got us to Munich in plenty of time for our next tour. Driver made sure we were comfortableâ
Reasonably Priced and Safe Transportation
âGonzalo from daytrip was our driver and he was absolutely amazing. He went over and beyond trying to locate us as our service wasn't so good on our phones. He patiently awaited our arrival to the lobby so he could take us from Tulum Dreams Resort to our other hotel in cancun an hour and a half away near the airport prior to our departure flight home. He was polite, respectful and kind. Made sure we were comfortable during our long ride. Fast and to the point. I recommend this company as finding a one way ride from Tulum to Cancun isn't easy or cheap and this company provides a great service for a great price. I will definitely be using them again whenever I'm in the Cancun/Tulum area. Thank you DayTrip and Gonzola.â
âWe were picked up by Marianna to drive us from Heraklion to Chania. The weather was terrible & due to this Marianna arrived a few minutes late. She contacted me to advise of this. Marianna lives in Chana and she made our trip very interesting by informing us of local things to do and see in Chania. Marianna is a safe driver and we all felt comfortable with the speed she drove at and how good her driving was in heavy rain. She is a lovely person with fluent English. We highly recommend Daytrips and if you are in Heraklion or Chania please make sure you ask for Marianna.â
âUsed the service to go from Luxor to Hurghada, Egypt. Ahmed H was our driver and he was perfect. The car was new, clean, he had water and snacks for us, and accommodated our stops. Great service from him and would recommend it.â
Comfortable and Safe Rides in Mexico
âUsed Daytrip for two rides in Mexico, which were both great. So comfortable, and we arrived at each of our destinations at a great time. Both were incredible drivers, and we felt so safe. One of our drivers, Miguel, also played the best music! Will definitely use Daytrip on our next trip to Mexico.â
Great way to travel and see some sights on the way
âWe did not know what to expect with this trip and booked from Australia. We were initially looking for an easy way to travel from Granada to Malaga. We decided not to waste the opportunity to see something additional on our way. Miguel certainly exceeded our expectations. His English was excellent (unfortunately we speak very little Spanish), and he was very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the regions as we passed through and also discussing some of the local ways. Miguel took us to Antequera as planned and ensured we were able to easily get our tickets to the attractions without any sense of rushing us. We were picked up and dropped off punctually and really enjoyed our trip. Hopefully we will return to Spain and we can use this service again sometime.â
âWe used the service twice while in Thailand. Extremely prompt and efficient customer service. Best rate being offered in Chiang Mai for the travels. Polite, punctual, professional and English speaking drivers. Clean, comfortable vehicles. Being a regular visitor to Thailand, this was hands down the best service. Most pleased with the company. I hope it sustains the excellence of service that was rendered to us.â
